Jenny Price Accents

Authentic accents
Clear communication
Confident performances
I work with actors at all levels, and with second language English speakers. I help you 'inhabit' accents with accuracy and confidence. Whether you’re preparing for an audition, building your CV or looking to soften your L2 accent, my approach is structured around your particular needs.
Accent work should never distract an audience. When it’s done well it becomes invisible, allowing listeners to fully connect with the character and their story. My role is to give you the tools to make that happen.

I’m a voice and accent coach with a PhD in linguistics, and specialist training (MA Voice Studies) from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.
My academic background has given me a deep understanding of accents, not just as sound patterns, but as systems shaped by history and identity.
At Central I had a clear intention to coach, and my practice is now informed by both linguistic precision and actor‑centred pedagogy.
In Australia I coached amateur musical theatre performers in General American. Since then I've helped London drama school students prepare for performances and auditions in a variety of accents, enabling them to feel comfortable delivering them authentically.
I’m especially interested in how accent work can unlock confidence. For many actors, fully embodying the rhythm and physicality of an accent provides a way into character that can free the performance.
Online and in‑person sessions are available.

I offer personalised one‑to‑one accent coaching, with group lessons also accommodated. Sessions focus on helping you understand how an accent is structured, so that you can approach it with assurance and conviction.

I assist actors with any accent of English, adapting the work to the specific character and performance context. Each accent presents its own challenges, and my role is to support you in meeting these successfully. I regularly coach accents including, but not limited to:
· Received Pronunciation (RP)
· General American
· Australian English
· New Zealand English

Big audition coming up? Let me help you master the accent you need. If you’re short on time I can guide you on what will make the biggest difference. We’ll prioritise the key features, allowing you to make the deadline without compromising authenticity.

I work with second‑language English speakers who want to improve clarity while retaining their L1 identity. Designed to accommodate your individual goals, accent softening is not about erasing who you are. It’s about:
· Increasing intelligibility
· Awareness of your own
speech patterns
· Hearing/embodying the
melody of your target
accent

Alongside accent work I can help with voice‑related challenges that may arise, such as:
· Awareness of the breath
· Adjusting projection to the
performance environment
· Need for clearer diction
and articulation
· Managing vocal fatigue
My voice work is practical and integrated, supporting the demands of text and accent rather than existing separately from them.

I provide accent and vocal support for ensemble productions. This can include group sessions, individual coaching and ongoing feedback within rehearsal settings.
I work collaboratively with directors and performers to achieve consistency across the cast.
Available for short-term and longer rehearsal periods.
Jenny was the Voice and Dialect Coach for our 2024 production of the musical Dogfight. She worked with the actors to produce a beautiful-sounding production and we saw significant improvements across the board thanks to her 1:1 sessions. Our diverse cast had different vocal abilities - some with professional training and others first-time performers - and she was able to tailor her coaching to those needs. Most importantly, she is a genuine joy to be around. We so appreciate the time and care she put into sharing her expertise with the cast.

When I was asked to co-direct You're a Good Man Charlie Brown for a local theatre group in 2023 I immediately spoke to Jenny to gauge her interest in being the coach for the General American accent. We were delighted when she said yes, and the work she did with the cast was crucial to their authentic sound and the show's success.

As a Director it is wonderful to work with someone who you trust wholeheartedly to work effectively and independently with a cast. Jenny can fit flexibly into any rehearsal or performance environment; she conducts herself professionally with initiative. Her warm, precise approach works wonders.
As an actor, I likewise appreciated her guidance in tailoring my accent to the role, which helped me approach the part with confidence.

I was thrilled when Jenny was assigned as my accent coach at Central. Her attention to detail and clear, confident coaching helped me improve my Australian English accent, and I always left our sessions feeling assured and prepared.
I felt completely at ease learning new techniques with her, which made a real difference. I was especially grateful for her flexibility and willingness to assist at short notice before auditions.

I had several sessions with Jenny where we worked on my General American accent. She also helped me with an audition for a film set in a US prison. My agent later told me she felt my accent was strong, which really boosted my confidence.
I have no hesitation in recommending Jenny as an accent coach.

Jenny helped me enormously using a variety of techniques, but particularly rhythm and movement as a creative way of facilitating my entry into the General American accent. By the time I played the TV reporter in our production of Animal Farm I felt relaxed and confident in my ability.
